The album features brand new recordings of 12 of the most loved and cherished classical piano masterpieces – like Debussy’s Clair De Lune and First Arabesque, Liszt’s heart wrenching Consolations No 3 and Satie’s three Gymnopedies.

Recorded and produced by Jonathan Slatter this new release was made using the stunning Alecia Keys sampled piano – a virtual piano created by Danish sample specialist Thomas Skarbye (better known as Scarbee). The piano is Alecia Key’s very own Yamaha C3 Neo grand built in 2002 and represents the very top of the Conservatory Collection line, and the samples perfectly capture the warm, soulful and inspiring sound of the C3 – perfect for Clair De Lune.

Background
Clair de Lune (moonlight) is part of Debussy’s Bergamasque Suite written around 1890, but not published until 1905. Clair De Lune was originally titled “Promenade Sentimentale”.

Many children are suffering from severe malnutrition with extremely low weight, signs of wasting and nutritional oedema. The security situation in Somalia is complicated, but because we are an impartial medical organisation and rely on charitable donations instead of government funding, we continue to be the only medical charity working in many areas.

There are hundreds of children and adults arriving at our clinics every day. Many of them need expert medical care for malnutrition, often whilst battling other severe conditions such as malaria and pneumonia.

Final straw
After many years of managing the YoPo Music site using a programme I can’t be bothered to name, I finally ran out of hair to pull out. Continual problems with the digital download side of the setup , and a lack of any noticeable enthusiasm from the manufacturer to improve this part of the programme, persuaded me to rebuild the site from scratch using a more adaptable and download friendly system.

Key changes to the new YoPo Music Site

• The option to buy a CD or Download are now available from one point – in other words if you are looking at the Classical album – Music for Classic Moments – you have the option to choose CD or Download on the same page. On the old site the whole catalogue was divided into Downloads on one side and CDs on the other. Hopefully this is simpler and easier to use.
• Downloads will now be served by Amazon S3 servers for a faster rock solid performance. With the size of some albums reaching a gigabyte I suspect it sometimes put too much strain on the server running the site and serving all the audio previews as well. As ever if you ever lose your link or even your we will always help you get the audio ASAP.
• I have abandoned the choice of licences and gone back to the original one price for all. Full mechanical licence included with the purchase price as before.
• If you are a producer of broadcast commercials and programmes for tv & radio we can supply you with a set of YoPo Music free of charge and free to use. More here.

The album was recorded using Logic Studio running on an iMac i7 Apple computer.

There are three pianos used on the album. The Steinway that comes bundled with Logic did most of the work, but I also used the Alecia Keys piano as well as the excellent Schimmel Braunschweig upright piano from Imperfect Samples.

The synths and pad sounds are mostly from Logic Studio but also Native Instruments Kore and the Albino 3.

Vocals were recorded on a Neuman u87ai and Rode NT-1a using the Logic compressor and Logic EQ.

The sounds of the waves were recorded on a very cold, very still and very spooky night on a sandy/shingly beach in Dorset, UK. I used a Sony D50 car location recorder on a tripod to record the waves along with a Sony windjammer. It was placed about 20 feet up from the breaking waves, and a continuous 54 minute 24 bit stereo recording of the sea was made.
